Nationwide there were 2118 new cases of stomach cancer in 2012.

Causes/Risk Factors

The causes of stomach cancer are not fully understood. Some established risk factors include:

  • Smoking .
  • Infection with the bacteria Helicobacter pylori .
  • A diet high in smoked, pickled and salted foods and low in fresh fruit and vegetables .
